NYCircuits Inc has just completed development of the front end of the new MyTimes site from the New York Times.
The MyTimes site is the newest major addition to the award-winning New York Times site. MyTimes lets individual users create their own set of pages with headlines and widgets from the Times or any other news source or RSS feed.
The front end for the MyTimes site implements a new widget framework
designed and implemented by NYCircuits Inc working with Times Digitial
developers. This framework makes it easier than ever to create Ajax
widgets for everything from simple RSS feeds to complicated
photoalbums.
The framework design for MyTimes is particularly innovative since it
allows widgets to be built with no coding whatsoever. Widgets are
created with simple property files and HTML templates. Data request and
display are handled automatically by the system. More complicated
widgets can have code attached for extra features. And, widgets are no
longer simple boxes with content. MyTimes widgets can contain other
widgets, greatly increasing design possibilities
When it comes to adding code to widgets, using industry standard
libraries like Sarissa and Scriptaculous means that widget developers
can leverage libraries that they are already familiar with.
